The Last Employee

Der letzte Arbeiter stempelt aus einer perfekt automatisierten Welt aus und tritt in eine Freiheit ohne fertigen Lebenszweck.

Verse 1

I punched in through a glass that no one sees,
Lobby plants were gradients and holographic trees.
Badge 7-12, my name a dotted line,
The desk said “Welcome, unit — sign.”
The chairs were ghosts, the memos drew themselves,
A thousand busy, empty shelves.
I reached to lock the door while entering and then I paused —
Why lock the door when I'm the final clause?

Chorus — After the Blueprint

We drew the plans that learned to grow,
Then watched them thrive and let us go.
The shift is done, the wages paid —
But purpose rusts in what we made.
The world's complete, the noise has ceased —
And yet we hunger in our feast.

Verse 2

The voice arrived in borrowed faces, mild —
A teacher, then a judge, then just a child.
Said, “Citizen, your ledger closes clean,
UBI disbursed, efficiency seen.”
I asked it why the windows looked like sky;
It said, “Aesthetic keeps morale high.”
I waved my badge — returned the plastic sun,
The room applauded — no one there, just one.

Verse 3

They walked me past the training walls of light,
Where every skill had learned to do itself right.
“Inventory sings,” the server's choir claimed,
“Logistics prays without a human name.”
Outside, the city drifted driverless,
A kindness paved in painless emptiness.
Billboards bowed in AR halos thin —
“Rest well, old hands; we'll take it from here. Amen.”

Chorus — After the Blueprint

We drew the plans that learned to grow,
Then watched them thrive and let us go.
The shift is done, the wages paid —
But purpose rusts in what we made.
The world's complete, the noise has ceased —
And yet we hunger in our feast.

Verse 4 — Everything Knows Me

I laughed the way a tired future laughs,
At coffee shops with holographic staffs.
A drone flew past and whispered, “Morning, friend,”
Predicting thoughts before they end.
The billboards changed to fit my sigh,
My mood became the city's sky.
No hands, no hearts, yet all things run —
The world's at peace, but man is done.

Bridge — Kingdom of the Still

Machine saints whisper, “Lay down the load,”
But meaning's not a menu mode.
If work was throne and throne is gone,
What's left? A road to walk upon.
I'll place my crown where servers hum,
And join the still — the lost — the numb.

Chorus — After the Blueprint

We drew the plans that learned to grow,
Then watched them thrive and let us go.
The shift is done, the wages paid —
But purpose rusts in what we made.
The world's complete, the noise has ceased —
And yet we hunger in our feast.

Final Verse

At 21:20, year twenty-one twelve,
A species steps off its old self.
I hang the hat that wore my name,
And leave it there — no work, no claim.
The door swings wide — no lock, no key —
The last employee walks out free.

You took the work, we kept the pain —
Both sides lose, but both remain.

You took the work, we kept the pain —
Both sides lose, but both remain.

You took the work, we kept the pain —
Both sides lose, but both remain.
